The possession or use of pyrotechnics caused almost half of the 6,099 incidents that occurred in sports facilities in the 2022/23 season, according to the Report on Analysis of Violence in the Sports Context (RAViD), to which Lusa had access this Friday.

Between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, 1,964 more events occurred compared to the same period in 2021/22, in a growing trend that has been advancing since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, in mid-2020. 2019. 20, and higher than the pre-pandemic phase.

This panorama was based on a “strong increase” in incidents related to pyrotechnics collected by the National Sports Information Point (PNID), which went from 1,827 to 3,033 in 2022/23, ahead of injuries (468), damages (382) and assaults (343), with an increase in breaches of duties by prosecutors (1,480).

Of the total of 6,099 incidents, 5,648 occurred in football, 303 in futsal and 148 in other sports, with 1,426 suspects identified, 242 detained and 482 expelled or prevented from accessing sports spaces.

In football, whose weight increased by 48% compared to 2021/22, the highest incidence occurred in I League matches (2,525), European competitions (819) or district (725) and youth (539) competitions. .

Pyrotechnics were the most frequent type of incident in the top category (72%), having a special impact on Benfica, FC Porto or Sporting matches, and in competitions organized by UEFA (60.9%), while Non-compliance with the promoter’s duties Predominate among the most visible events in district and youth football.

Last season, 473 measures prohibiting access to sports venues came into force, which represented an increase of 41.2% compared to the 335 added in 2021/22, of which 374 (79.1%) resulted from a decision of the Authority for the Prevention and Fight of Violence in Sports (APCVD) and 99 (20.9%) were imposed by judicial authorities.

The use of fireworks was the main reason for these sanctions (326), followed by attacks (67), incitement to violence, racism, xenophobia and intolerance (37), throwing objects (28), invasion of the spectacle area (13). ) or insults (two).

Seven clubs concentrate 66.5% of the fans affected by the ban measures, such as the national football champion Benfica (108), Sporting (78) – leader in this parameter in 2021/22 – FC Porto (68), Valongo (17), Vitória SC (15) and Boavista and Sporting de Braga (14 each).

The fourth version of RAViD also shows the activity of the APCVD, which issued 697 final rulings, compared to 537 in the same period last year, and 374 measures prohibiting access to premises came into force, ahead of the 274 of the last season.

Almost one in three (31%) of these deliberations affected legal entities, as they were based on infractions attributable to promoters and organizers of sporting events, while 42% affected natural persons, with a clear predominance of the male gender (97, 1%).

The fans to whom prohibition measures are applied are predominantly men (96.8%), resident in the districts of Lisbon and Porto (26.2% each) and aged between 21 and 25 years (34.2% ), 67.1% are part of organized fan groups. better known as claques: 95 from Benfica, 64 from FC Porto and 56 from Sporting.

The majority of cases were due to the use of explosive substances or devices, pyrotechnic articles, smoke or objects with a similar effect (324) and occurred in football (96.2%), with the I Liga being responsible for 192 of the cases. 350 bans. verified in this modality (53.3%).

“Conversations with international experts reveal a panorama of growing concern across Europe, with symptoms of a resurgence of vandalism, along with the influence of an informal subculture, especially after the confinement period.
