Mourinho’s AS Roma loses to Juventus

José Mourinho’s AS Roma lost 1-0 to Juventus today and left the European zone again, while the old signora took advantage of Inter’s mistake and remained only two points behind the leader. The only goal of Turin’s challenge came in the 47th minute, in a quick attack from the hosts that culminated in an assist from Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic to French midfielder Adrien Rabiot, who fired between Rui Patrício and the near post.

In a match with few chances, the teams were very balanced and the difference lay in the effectiveness of Massimiliano Allegri’s team. Inter’s slip-up on Friday during their visit to Genoa, 12th, with 20 points allowed Juventus to move closer Nerazzurri, who commanded with 45, now only two points.

Those who also benefited from the stumble were Rafael Leão and his AC Milan, third, with 36 points, who defeated Sassuolo 1-0 in the 59th minute with a goal from the American Christian Pulisic, after an assist from the Algerian Ismael Bennacer. The Milanese were nine points behind their eternal rival and seven points behind Juventus.

Hours earlier, Nigerian Ademola Lookman’s 58th-minute goal allowed Atalanta to win 1-0 against Lecce and dethrone Roma from sixth place, leaving them two points behind fifth-placed Bologna, who were surprised by Udinese (15th), which won a decisive 3-0.

Portuguese defender João Ferreira was a total player in the host team, which secured the victory with goals from Argentine Roberto Pereira in the 23rd and 52nd minutes, and Lorenzo Lucca in the 48th, moving away from the relegation zone to the second level.

In the two matches between teams fighting to stay in Serie A, Cagliari and Empoli, 18th and 19th respectively, both in the ‘red zone’, drew 0-0, while Salernitana remained in 20th and last place, despite the 1-0. 0 win over Verona (17th), leaving them just two points away from salvation.
