Gil Vicente, of the Portuguese football league, announced this Tuesday the holding of early elections for the club’s governing bodies, a consequence of the lack of will of the current president, Francisco Dias da Silva, to continue in office.
A club source told Lusa that the current director, re-elected in March 2023 for a second term, cited “personal reasons” for leaving the management of the Barcelos emblem.
Even so, according to the same source, Francisco Dias da Silva “intends to maintain his support for the club in this important centenary year” and believes that “within the current management there are people with the profile and quality to continue the project.”
Given this unexpected departure, the president of the general assembly of Gil Vicente scheduled a new electoral event for February 1, having to deliver the formalization of the candidate lists to the club’s administrative services before January 24.
The vote, on February 1, will take place between 10:00 and 20:00, at the Cidade de Barcelos stadium, and the new social bodies will take office immediately after the votes are counted.
