Brazilian Marcos Leonardo signs for Benfica until 2029

Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo, who played for Santos, signed a contract with Benfica for five and a half seasonsuntil 2029, the Portuguese soccer champion club announced this Friday.

“Welcome, Marcos Leonardo,” the ‘incarnate’ club wrote on social networks, in a publication accompanied by a video with the first images of the Brazilian footballer and with the ‘hashtag’ #MarcosLeonardo2029.

On video, the player receives a Benfica shirt and says the first words equipped with ‘red and white’: “Now I have everything to play in Glorioso. Load Benfica”.

In a statement sent on Thursday to the Securities Market Commission (CMVM), Benfica informs that it “reached an agreement with Santos FC for the acquisition of all the rights of the player Marcos Leonardo, for an amount of 18 million euros “.

“More information is that Santos FC will also have the right to receive a percentage of 10% of the value of a capital gain obtained in a future transfer of the aforementioned player.”adds the statement.

Benfica concludes that “a sports employment contract was signed” with Marcos Leonardo “valid until June 30, 2029, which includes a termination clause worth 150 million euros.”

The 20-year-old striker, who has also been photographed with President Rui Costa and wearing the shirt with his name and the number 2029, is the Reds’ first winter reinforcement, after having developed his entire career at Santos, in who debuted in 2020 with the main team.

In the last Brasileirão, in which Santos was relegated to Serie B, Marcos Leonardo scored 13 goals and gave two assists, in 31 games.
