Cristiano Ronaldo and João Cancelo have been nominated for the Footballer of the Year award at the Globe Soccer Awards, while Abel Ferreira, Sérgio Conceição and José Mourinho will compete for the best coach award, organizers of the event announced on Thursday.
Ronaldo, from Manchester United, and Cancelo, from Manchester City, are part of a list of 25 players who will compete for the best player award in 2022, which also includes names such as Colombian Luis Díaz (ex-FC Porto and currently with Liverpool), Argentinian Lionel Messi (Paris Saint-Germain), French Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain) and Brazilian Neymar (Paris Saint-Germain).
Haaland of Manchester City, Harry Kane of Tottenham, Lewandoswski of Bayern Munich, Modric of Real Madrid and Salah of Liverpool are also among the nominees.
In the award for coach of the year, Abel Ferreira (Palmeiras), Sérgio Conceição (FC Porto) and José Mourinho (Roma) are in the running for the prize, along with Carlo Ancelloti (Real Madrid), Pep Guardiola (Manchester City), Klopp (Liverpool), among others.
The Portuguese representation continues in the Young Player Award, with Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain), Vitinha (Paris Saint-Germain), Rafael Leão (AC Milan) and Francisco Conceição (Ajax) on the list of candidates.
FC Porto appears among the nominees for the best club of the year, as well as its chairman Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa, who is on the list for the best manager award of 2022.
The 13th edition of the Globe Soccer Awards will take place on November 17 in Dubai.
