“For the truth to come to light.” Audit target, Judo Federation says available for clarification

The Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ) announced this Monday that it will proceed with an extraordinary external audit of the Portuguese Judo Federation (FPJ), after complaints from several athletes.

The IPDJ wants to know how the money from the Olympic judo program is being used, after the Portuguese Judo Federation informed two athletes that it had run out of funds for their preparation, when the Government had already agreed to increase funding for the Olympic project . .

The realization [da auditoria] took into account the discordant positions between the allegations of the judokas of the Olympic Preparation Program, expressed in an open letter, and the clarifications provided by the FPJ”, clarifies the IPDJ, in a statement sent to the newsrooms.

The Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth guarantees that the results will be known in the next 90 days.

In statements to TSFthe president of the FPJ, Jorge Fernandes, regrets the delay in clarifying everything.

“I think you’re talking too much, talking too much and doing too little. These things need to be cleared up right away and I’m available for that. I don’t have any problems, nor do I see any problems on our part.” It is necessary to clarify for the truth to come out, therefore, I am available.”

All this “only sins for being late”, reinforces Jorge Fernandes. “The sooner this is known and addressed”, the sooner athletes will be able to focus on what is “really important” – competitions, training and the Olympics.

Last Thursday, the Secretary of State for Youth and Sports revealed that the Portuguese Olympic Committee questioned the Judo Federation in relation to new complaints from a group of athletes and said that it awaits answers.

Athletes such as Telma Monteiro, Catarina Costa, Patrícia Sampaio, Rochele Nunes, Bárbara Timo, Anri Egutidze and Rodrigo Lopes wrote an open letter in which they accused the president of the Portuguese Judo Federation, Jorge Fernandes, of oppression, discrimination and threats, lamenting the “unsustainable and toxic climate”.
