IPDJ Announces Judo Federation Audit to Evaluate Olympic Program Implementation

The Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) announced this Monday that it will conduct an extraordinary audit of the Portuguese Judo Federation (FPJ) with the aim of evaluating the financial implementation of the sport’s Olympic program.

The IPDJ states in a statement that the audit must be completed within 90 days and explains that its implementation has taken into account the conflicting views between the allegations of judokas in the Olympic Preparatory Program, expressed in an open letter, and the clarifications that by the FPJ

The organization recalls that, in addition to the audit now announced, an own-initiative investigation is underway, in response to allegations received, “in view of the legitimacy of certain decisions of the FPJ, in view of the legal regime of sport Federations”, which will be completed within three weeks.

“The continuous monitoring of public funding, assigned by the IPDJ to the regular activities of sports federations, is based on a demanding evaluation matrix, materialized in the assessment of interim and final reports on the technical and financial implementation of the funded sports programs. federation accounts, in their own and exclusive cost centers for each program,” the statement said.

The IPDJ also states that “the reports and accounts of the financial years of each year, approved by the general assembly of the federation, with the accounts certified by a commissioner or a commissioner, are also subject to analysis”.

In August, Olympic judokas accused Telma Monteiro, Catarina Costa – who self-demarcated, Bárbara Timo, Rochele Nunes, Patrícia Sampaio and Anri Egutidze, plus Rodrigo Lopes, the incumbent president, Jorge Fernandes, of discrimination and oppression.

In an open letter, listing various allegations, the judoka denounced what they say is “a toxic and unsustainable climate”, in addition to pointing out discriminatory attitudes, saying there are no conditions to evolve in the current regime. of the functioning of the FPJ.

A scenario that raised concerns among the Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, the Olympic Committee of Portugal (COP) and the Commission of Olympic Athletes (CAO), leading to custody mediation in August and an attempt to resolve some issues unload.

In the critical phase, coach Ana Hormigo also sympathized with the judokas who signed the letter, a gesture in absentia by the FPJ, who announced their departure three months later.

The information was given by Telma Monteiro, with the judoka once again deploring the Federation’s attitude, in a statement to which they “joined”, expressing support for Ana Hormigo and sadness for the decision, the Olympic judokas Bárbara Timo and Rochele Nunes.

To Lusa, the FPJ president clarified that Ana Hormigo had not been fired, but had been removed from the main team roles after losing confidence in the coach.

Telma Monteiro’s new accusations came after the FPJ General Assembly, in which Jorge Fernandes saw the majority of deputies approve the budget and plan of activities for 2023, in a clear vote of confidence to the leader, with just one vote against and six abstentions. among the 52 delegates present.
