Rui Pinto accuses justice of risking his life

Rui Pinto accused the Judicial Police (PJ) of risking his life on Monday for allegedly sharing his identity with the Doyen investment fund in November 2015.

In today’s hearing of the Football Leaks trial, at the Lisbon Central Criminal Court, the creator of the electronic platform directly targeted Chief Inspector Rogério Bravo, whose conduct in this case has already been investigated, alleging that Doyen – who is an assistant is in the process — he even hired people to go after him in Hungary.

“Rogério Bravo signed a deal with Nélio Lucas in November 2015. This deal assumed an exchange of information: Nélio Lucas provided the Marclay report [empresa de cibersegurança contratada para investigar a intrusão informática] and the PJ would hand over the suspect’s name – my name. And that’s what happened. On November 26, 2015, the PJ gave my name to Nélio Lucas, endangering my life,” he said.

According to Rui Pinto, who is making statements to the collective of judges for the third consecutive hearing, Doyen was still hesitant to give that information to the Portuguese authorities, but would rather have been given information about the identity of the person responsible for the computer break-in. .

At the time, Doyen Capital and the Efendi family feared reputational damage if it became publicly known that they would be the target of unauthorized access. They weighed the pros and cons and agreed to provide this information because the suspect’s name was more valuable people in Hungary to reach me”, he underlined and continued: “They were still undecided about the usefulness of the PJ, because they wanted to solve it with their resources”.

The subsequent internet posting of the contract between Doyen and the cybersecurity firm was a “provocation,” according to Rui Pinto, with the aim of demonstrating that he had not been intimidated by the threats he had begun to receive via email, however.

“It was to show that I wasn’t afraid of them. It has to do with the rebellious spirit, a demonstration that I wasn’t afraid of them and that I knew I was being sought. I didn’t change places I stayed in Budapest”, emphasized the creator of the electronic platform, although he admitted that he was afraid: “But that didn’t stop me”.

Rui Pinto also referenced that Doyen “threatened the media through the courts” not to address issues related to the investment fund disclosed in Football Leaks, citing “ongoing threats” to the Record newspaper.

Previously, the main defendant in the case denied provoking the PJ with a publication on the Football Leaks page on Facebook, claiming that it and the Sporting Comédia de Portugal page belonged to a Benfica employee and that this “was part of a communication strategy from the Club of Light. He also said that this “post” ultimately harmed him “a lot” and was even used as a later justification for maintaining his preventive detention.

Commenting on the collective of judges, Rui Pinto also said that the project around the site has never received a donation, although he did have this expectation. “People don’t like to spend money. I waited for enough money, a few bucks to continue the project. In the end, it only caused damage. We never received any donations,” he confessed.

Rui Pinto, 34 years old, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of improper access, 14 of breach of correspondence, six of illegal access, targeting entities such as Sporting, Doyen, the law firm PLMJ, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), and also for computer sabotage of Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in attempted form. This latest crime concerns Doyen and also led to the indictment of lawyer Aníbal Pinto.

The creator of Football Leaks has been at large since August 7, 2020, “for his collaboration” with the Judicial Police (PJ) and his “critical sense”, but has been placed under witness protection at an undisclosed location and under police protection for security reasons. .
