Government defines candidacy for Mundial2030 as “a major goal of the country”

The Secretary of State for Youth and Sports (SEJD), João Paulo Correia, said on Monday that Iberian’s candidacy for the 2030 World Cup “will have an absolute, transformative impact and is a great goal for the country”.

“The joint candidacy with Spain will be an objective that is not just for football. It has an absolute, transformative impact and it is a great objective for the country,” said João Paulo Correia during the intervention in the opening session of the Football Talks -forum.

At the end of the conversation, in the mixed area, the official added that this organization has “great sporting, social and economic strength”, in addition to the “connection of Portugal with its communities”, also given the “projection of the Portugal brand in the world”.

João Paulo Correia spoke about the future of sports, especially football, during this decade, marked by future changes in the centralization of television rights, following the decree-law adopted in February 2020 on this issue.

“The Legislative Decree had two objectives: to increase revenues from television and multimedia rights for clubs and to reduce inequalities between those who receive more and less in the football industry. It also stipulates that by 2025/26 the centralized marketing model Government will be available to further talk to football organizations”, assured the current secretary of state.

By 2030, João Paulo Correia hopes that “the sports country will have almost a million federations and that women’s sport will have achieved its goals, through the strategy drawn up by the government”, which is shared with the ideas of the FPF.

“The federation’s strategy has a big muscle, namely growth in women. The sports that will grow the most until 2030 will be the sports that know best how to bet on women’s sports,” he said, adding: “We need a strong strategy here. Sport will grow as women occupy positions of power in sport”.

The Football Talks forum will take place between today and Tuesday, in Cidade do Futebol, with a comprehensive program based on topics related to the five strategic pillars identified in the FPF’s 2030 Football Plan: Childhood and Growth, Football for All and All, Quality of Gaming, Engagement and Ecosystem Sustainability.
