The creator of the Football Leaks electronic platform, Rui Pinto, refused this Monday to give more statements in court, after four sessions in which he spoke before the group of judges.
Rui Pinto began to give statements before the panel of judges who judge him since September 4, 2020, as part of a process in which he is responsible for a total of 90 crimes, on October 10.
At the beginning of today’s session, after knowing the intention of the accused, Doyen’s lawyer requested the reproduction and assessment of the statements made before the criminal investigation judge on March 22, 2019.
Francisco Teixeira da Mota, Rui Pinto’s lawyer, opposed the reproduction but went to the appreciation of the statements, in which there are some contradictions between those given in the trial and in the previous procedural stage.
Rui Pinto, 34, is responsible for a total of 90 crimes: 68 of improper access, 14 of violation of correspondence, six of illegitimate access, directed at entities such as Sporting, Doyen, the PLMJ law firm, the Portuguese Federation de Fútbol (FPF) and the Attorney General’s Office (PGR), as well as for computer sabotage of Sporting’s SAD and for extortion, in the form of an attempt. This last crime concerns Doyen and was the one that also motivated the accusation of the lawyer Aníbal Pinto.
The creator of Football Leaks has been free since August 7, 2020, “for his collaboration” with the Judicial Police (PJ) and his “critical sense”, but he is, for security reasons, included in the protection of witnesses in a undisclosed location. and under police protection.
