FIFA has rejected the Danish team’s request to train in shirts with the message “human rights for all” during the World Cup in Qatar, the Danish Football Association (DBU) said on Thursday.
Denmark, which has taken an active role in defending migrant workers in the emirate and LGBTQI+ rights, wanted to spread the message on t-shirts as a form of protest against Qatar and its human rights record.
The Danish national team also intends to present itself with a different main kit and a black alternative, in tribute to those killed or injured in the construction of stadiums, the metro network, roads and hotels in Doha.
At the World Cup, Denmark will be part of Group D along with defending champions France, Tunisia and Australia, which has also been one of the most critical entrants in Qatar.
The Men’s World Cup will be played between November 20 and December 18, with the Portuguese national team classified and placed in Group H, with Uruguay, Ghana and South Korea.
