The Portuguese international footballer Bernardo Silva admitted this Saturday that “it is natural” that Portugal “play for Cristiano Ronaldo”, given his ability to solve matches, and gave the example of Mbappé, Neymar and Messi in the respective teams.
“The reality is that when we have a player like Cristiano, it’s natural that sometimes we play for him, because he can win the game in the final minutes,” the Portuguese winger began by saying in an interview with FIFA.
The 28-year-old Manchester City player, who along with Ronaldo is among those chosen by coach Fernando Santos to represent Portugal in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, recalled that the same thing happens in other teams.
“The same happens with other countries. It is natural, for example, that France always seeks [Kylian] Mbappé, because he can decide a game at any time. Brazil has Neymar, like Argentina has Lionel Messi, ”he argued.
Bernardo Silva explains that, having this type of athlete in the team, it is necessary to “take advantage of them”, although “you should not be totally dependent”, since “it can upset the dynamics of the team”.
One of the indisputable Fernando Santos in the ‘quinas’ team left the coach torn in praise.
“He is a coach who has had great success with our team and he is the only one who has won trophies for Portugal, the Euro Cup in 2016 and the League of Nations in 2019. I think the Portuguese are very happy with the job. he has done it, he is doing it. Lately we went through a difficult stage, but we are working hard to correct things, ”he praised.
Lastly, he spoke of the “dream and objective” of being world champion at the service of Portugal, in Qatar, in the competition that starts on the 20th.
“It’s a child’s dream to win the World Cup, the biggest competition in football. Our goal is to be champions, but we have to go little by little, game by game. Obviously it’s a dream that we all have, but let’s play a game in a while, because I think that this is the best way to win any championship”, he concluded.
The final phase of the 2022 World Cup is held in Qatar, from November 20 to December 18, and Portugal is part of Group H, successively facing Ghana (November 24), Uruguay (November 28) and South Korea (November 2). december).
