The matches of the round of 16 of the Portuguese Soccer Cup will be defined this Monday, in a draw that will take place at the Cidade do Futebol, in Oeiras, and will now establish the pairings for the remaining stages of the competition.
Seven teams from the I Liga, four from the II Liga, three from Liga 3 and two from the Portuguese Championship participate in the competition, which, starting at 11:00 a.m., will meet their rivals in the ‘queen’ competition of Portuguese football, as well as the route to follow until the final, since all the following qualifiers will be defined.
After the elimination of eight primary divisions on matchday three, on matchday four only three teams from the I Liga left the competition -Gil Vicente, Estoril Praia and Vizela-, all of them in clashes with other teams from the first division.
FC Porto, current holder of the trophy, and Benfica, victory record holder in the competition, are two of the seven top-flight teams still in the competition, as are Sporting de Braga, Arouca, Famalicão, Casa Pia and Vitoria de Guimarães.
The II League is represented by Académico Viseu, Leixões, Nacional and BSAD, while Vitória de Setúbal, Vilaverdense and Varzim continue to compete in the 3rd League, which eliminated Sporting in the third round.
Rabo de Peixe and Beira-Mar, champions of the Portuguese Cup in 1998/99, represent the Campeonato de Portugal, the fourth division of national football.
The round of 16 matches of the Portuguese Cup are scheduled for January 10, 11 and 12, 2023.
Teams qualified for the round of 16 of the Portuguese Cup:
– First League: Arouca, FC Porto, Famalicão, Vitória de Guimarães, Casa Pia, Benfica and Sporting de Braga.
– II League: Academic Viseu, Leixões, Nacional and BSAD.
– League 3: Vilaverdense, Varzim and Vitória de Setúbal.
– Portuguese Championship: Rabo de Peixe and Beira-Mar.
