The president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, revealed this Tuesday that the renewal of the contract of coach Rúben Amorim “is on the table” and guaranteed that the coach “will comply with the contract” valid until 2024.
In an interview with RTP3, the Leonese leader recalled that this is precisely the year in which the current connection ends and pointed out that those responsible for the club have already transmitted to Amorim “what they want beyond 2024”.
The renewal, he admits, is at this point “a matter on the table”, and the Leon coach “has said many times that he is happy at Sporting”.
Given the interest of the “Big 5” clubs, the five main European leagues, in hiring the coach, Varandas says that “it is a great sign.”
“The day I go to one of the big 5 I just have to be happy and grateful for everything Rúben Amorim has done, I have no doubt that I won’t have it in 20 years,” he said.
Sporting currently occupies fourth place in the league and is 12 points behind leader Benfica, which has already been eliminated from the Portuguese Cup.
In European competitions, the lions have also been left out of the Champions League and will continue to discuss their presence in the Europa League.
