King Salman of Saudi Arabia announced, according to Arab News, that this Wednesday will be declared a national holiday after the surprise victory of the Saudis against Argentina, 1-2, in a match qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Russia.
The suggestion was made, according to the Arab newspaper, by the country’s crown prince, Mohammed bin Salman, and later approved by the King. All employees, from the public and private sectors, as well as students, will have the right to enjoy the holiday.
Saudi Arabia achieved the first big surprise in the 2022 World Cup today by beating Argentina, which had gone 36 games without losing, 2-1, on the first day of Group C, in Lusail.
The ‘albi-celeste’ formation, which was seeking to match Italy’s unbeaten world record (37 games), scored first, through Lionel Messi, from a penalty, in minute 10, but Saleh Al Shehri, in minute 48, and Salem Al Dawsari, at 53, sealed the upset.
