Manchester United’s owners announced on Tuesday that they are open to selling the club, which is far from its best sporting moment and the brightness of other times.
“The board will consider all strategic alternatives, including a new investment in the club, a sale or other transactions involving the institution.”according to the statement of the club, since 2005 owned by the American Glazer family.
The announcement comes hours after the Red Devils announced the departure of striker Cristiano Ronaldo “with immediate effect”, a year and a half after the Portuguese star’s return to Old Trafford.
United’s last English title was in 2013, in Alex Ferguson’s final season as coach.
“The process is defined”adds the statement, “to strengthen the club’s future growth, with the ultimate aim of leading this club to exploit opportunities, both on the pitch and commercially”🇧🇷
“We will evaluate all options to ensure we do what is best for our fans and that Manchester United maximize the club’s growth opportunities now and in the future.”wrote Avram and Joel Glazer, the two co-chairmen of United, sons of businessman Malcolm Glazer, who passed away in 2014 and was responsible for buying the club in 2005.
