This Wednesday, Japan materialized the second big surprise in the 2022 World Cup, after Saudi Arabia’s victory over Argentina, beating Germany 2-1, in a match of the first round of Group E, played in Doha.
Ilkay Gündogan, in minute 33, from a penalty, gave the Germans the advantage.
But Ritsu Doan, 75, and Takuma Asano, 83, two players who came off the bench and played in Germany, Freiburg and Bochum, respectively, sealed the turnaround.
The second match of the first day of Group E takes place this Wednesday, at 4:00 p.m. (in Lisbon), with Spain, world champion in 2010, against Costa Rica.
