Cristiano Ronaldo scored Portugal’s first goal in Qatar 2022 – victory over Ghana (3-2) – and went down in world football history as the only player to score in five World Cups. Ronaldo scored his World Cup debut in Germany in 2006, in a 2-0 victory over Iran, then scored again in 2010 (South Africa), 2014 (Brazil), 2018 (Russia) and now in Qatar.
In addition, the Portuguese captain became the author of the 50th goal for Portugal in the final stages of World Cups. The first goal by a Portuguese player in a World Cup was scored by José Torres, against Hungary (Portugal won 3-1), in the 1966 World Cup, in what was the national team’s best participation to date and which saw also the goal 10 signed by Eusébio against North Korea (Portugal won 5-3).

CR7, a Portugal-Ghana starter, was moved by the national anthem and became the fifth player to play in five World Cups. He was present at the 2006, 2010, 2014 and 2018 editions, joining Argentina’s Lionel Messi, Germany’s Lothar Matthaus and Mexico’s Rafael Márquez and Antonio Carvajal.
