Belgium’s defeat against Morocco this Sunday (0-2) gave rise to a rarely seen scenario in Brussels. Dozens of people caused disturbances, forcing the police to intervene after the 2022 World Cup football match.
The incidents, in which a journalist was injured, began halfway through the second half of the match, when 150 youths set fire to a container, threw fireworks and then damaged parked vehicles, according to Belgian public television RTBF.
Footage distributed by local media showed several supporters vandalizing a car, some of which carried the Moroccan flag, and scooters on fire.

The police sent 100 officers to the center of the Belgian capital and used tear gas and water cannons to disperse the rioters. Several metro stations and streets were closed to traffic.
Brussels mayor Philip Close condemned the incidents on Twitter and urged supporters to avoid the city centre.
The disturbances were confined to the center of Brussels, as other parts of the city, home to an important Moroccan community, celebrated the Moroccan national football team’s 2-0 win against Belgium without incident.
