The Netherlands, Ecuador and England need a draw this Tuesday to qualify for the ‘eighth matchday’ of the 2022 World Cup, on the third matchday of their respective groups, with Iran, led by Carlos Queiroz, also in contention.
In Group A, the Netherlands faces the host and they already eliminated Qatar on the last day of the group stage and they know that a draw is enough for them to move on, as happened to Ecuador in the match against Senegal.
The African team, for its part, needs to win to guarantee their place in the round of 16, with the two group stage matches at 6:00 p.m. local time (3:00 p.m. in Lisbon).
The Netherlands and Ecuador, in the event of a defeat, and Senegal, in the event of a tie, can also qualify, but in this scenario they already depend on third parties, the first tiebreaker being the difference between goals scored and goals conceded.
Regarding Group B, England only needs a draw in the match against Wales to be present in the ‘eighth’, while the Welsh know that only a win leaves them chances of qualifying.
In the other match of the ‘poule’, Iran, led by the Portuguese Carlos Queiroz, knows that a victory against the United States will qualify them, but the same happens with the North Americans, who have the simplest accounts: if they win they are classified, if lose or draw they go ‘home’.
Iran can go through with a draw, just as England can go through with a loss, but here they already depend on third parties.
The Wales-England and Iran-United States games are scheduled for 10:00 p.m. (7:00 p.m.).
The World Cup, with the participation of the Portuguese team, runs until December 18, in Qatar.
