Like Australia, Tunisia also surprised this Wednesday by beating France, world champions, 1-0.
After entering the field with several changes to the starting lineup – once they qualified -, the blues they never had much control over the Tunisians, who even scored in the first half, after eight minutes, in a move later canceled for offside.
But the Tunisian goal finally came (58′) from Wahbi Khazri, who shot hard after an individual action and managed to beat Steve Mandanda to make it 1-0. The moment forced him to do so and Didier Deschamps, the French coach, launched several regular starters, such as Mbappé or Griezmann. And it was precisely after the changes that France became more dangerous, with Mbappé entering the Tunisian territory at 88′, firing at the figure of Aymen Dahmen, the Tunisian goalkeeper.

France would eventually score just after the final whistle, after 90+8 minutes, with Antoine Griezmann firing after a detour into the opposition’s penalty area. New Zealand referee Matthew Conger blew his whistle two minutes from the end of the game… but VAR had other plans and warned of a possible offside. The New Zealand judge went to see the footage and, after review, disallowed the French goal with the game over.
Despite the three points won, Tunisia failed to qualify, finishing third in the group (only the top two qualified) and Denmark was relegated to last place.
