The Prime Minister, António Costa, announced on Friday that he will be present at the national football team’s next match in the World Cup, in Qatar, during the round of 16.
Leaving the swearing-in ceremony of the six secretaries of state at Palácio de Belém, including his new deputy, António Mendonça Mendes, the Prime Minister was asked if he was thinking about traveling to Qatar to watch the national team match, after missing the presence this Friday for health reasons, in the last game of the group stage.
“Sure, Sure! Hopefully by Tuesday”answered António Costa, without making any further statements to journalists.
Portugal will only play on Tuesday if it takes first place in Group H, which will be decided on Friday against the South Korean national team.
On Wednesday, an official source from António Costa’s office told Lusa that the head of government had canceled his trip to Qatar to attend Friday’s meeting on health grounds, after being replaced by parliamentary affairs minister Ana Catarina Mendes, who is in in charge of sports.
