FPF confirms that Nuno Mendes will miss the rest of the World Cup due to an injury

Nuno Mendes will no longer play at the World Cup in Qatar. The news was reported by the newspaper L’Équipe and officially confirmed this Friday by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF).

“The international Nuno Mendes was considered unavailable for the work of the national team after tests were carried out by the Health and Performance Unit of the FPF. The player suffered a muscle injury in his left thigh during the match between Portugal and Uruguay. Nuno Mendes will remain part of the national delegation in Qatar, where he will begin the salvage work,” the note read on the FPF’s official website.

The left-back suffered a hamstring injury during the game against Uruguay and left the field in tears when he was replaced by Raphaël Guerreiro.

It should be noted that the Paris Saint-Germain player had already suffered a similar injury for his club, which took three weeks to overcome.

Since arriving on the national team podium for the World Cup, Nuno Mendes has revealed some physical issues that saw him miss the first match with Ghana, spending just 42 minutes against the Uruguayans.

In addition, Otávio and Danilo Pereira are still injured, and this is the most concerning case, with doubts whether he will be an option for coach Fernando Santos again.
