Brazil. Gabriel Jesus and Alex Telles miss the rest of the world

After tests carried out in Doha on Saturday morning, CBF’s medical department has announced that left-back Alex Telles and striker Gabriel Jesus will not have enough time to recover from their injuries and will therefore not participate in the World Cup in Qatar.

“As announced by the CBF after the game against Cameroon, the players Alex Telles and Gabriel Jesus were tested on Saturday morning (03) for injuries and the impossibility of recovering in time to participate in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022,” said the CBF statement.

Striker Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal) and former Porto defender Alex Telles (of Sevilla) were substituted due to injuries during Friday night’s match at the Lusail Stadium against Cameroon after 54 and 64 minutes respectively. Telles had to be comforted in tears by his companions.

The absentees are a blow to Brazil, which retains attacking alternatives but risks falling short on defense, where laterals Danilo (with an ankle sprain) and Alex Sandro (with a thigh injury) also came through the infirmary.
