Portuguese Paulo Bento announced on Monday that he will no longer be South Korea’s coach after the defeat by Brazil (4-1) in the round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
“Our participation has ended here and now it’s time to think about the future, which will not go through the Korean national team. I’m going to rest and then I’ll see what I’m going to do. I just communicated it to the players , to the president, it’s a decision I’ve been making since September. Today I finally just confirmed it and thank you for everything you’ve done and everything you’ve given”he said.
At the press conference after the meeting with Brazil, Paulo Bento said he “could not be more proud” of coaching the South Korean national team, which he has led since 2018.
🇧🇷If it wasn’t the best group I’ve worked with, it certainly was one of the best.”he claimed.
Speaking of the round of 16 match, Paulo Bento said he was “saddened by the result, but very proud of what these guys have done in these four years”.
