The Italian soccer player Manolo Portanova, a Genoa player, from Serie B, was sentenced this Tuesday by a court in Siena to six years in prison for sexual assault on a 21-year-old girl, which occurred in 2021.
The events for which the footballer was sentenced date back to the night of May 30, when Portanova, an uncle, sentenced to the same sentence, and a third party, who will be tried in February, abused a 21-year-old student after a party in the center of Siena.
According to the Corriere della Sera newspaper, a brother of Portanova, a minor at the time of the events, was also implicated in the crime, and his situation is being analyzed by the Florence juvenile court.
The 22-year-old midfielder would have accompanied the student to a house, where the rest of the suspects appeared, who sexually assaulted the young woman and recorded it with cell phones.
Portanova, who will appeal the sentence, was also sentenced to pay 100,000 euros to the victim, 20,000 to the young woman’s mother and 10,000 euros to a women’s support association.
