Portuguese Renato Paiva is Bahia’s new coach, assuming command of the team in the return to Brazilian Serie A soccer and days after the club’s SAD was acquired by Grupo City.
In a statement, Bahía informs that the Portuguese coach signs for two seasons and should arrive in Salvador on Wednesday.
Renato Paiva, 52, is thus preparing for his third experience abroad, after leaving Benfica, to which he was linked for 16 seasons, going through various levels of training, as an assistant and as a coach.
The coach left the ‘eagles’ to train the Ecuadorians of Independiente del Valle, a club from which he emerged champion in 2021 and where he remained for a season and a half, until May of this year, before joining the Mexicans of Club León.
Last week, the club announced that, “by his own decision”, Renato Paiva was leaving León, after having finished the inaugural League in tenth place, leading the team in 12 games (three wins, three draws and six losses).
With his arrival in Bahia, Renato Paiva joins the coaches Abel Ferreira, champion with Palmeiras, and Luís Castro, from Botafogo, while António Oliveira will still be analyzing the possibility of continuing in Cuiabá.
Another hypothesis in Serie A, to which Bahía returns after relegation two seasons ago and now as third in Serie B in 2022, is the continuity of Vítor Pereira, when there is talk that the Portuguese coach could sign for Flamengo .
The coach left Corinthians, alleging personal reasons, with the illness of a family member, but the Brazilian press has announced that Vítor Pereira will be the new Flamengo coach, a scenario that President Rodolfo Landim has already said is “on the way”.
