The Real Madrid coach, the Italian Carlo Ancelotti, praised striker Cristiano Ronaldo this Thursday, in an interview in which he evaluates the 2022 World Cup, admitting that he did not know Gonçalo Ramos.
“It doesn’t seem like a great World Cup to me. I am convinced that little or nothing will remain of Qatar 2022,” said Ancelotti, in an interview with the Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, highlighting, in the competition, “known players like Mbappé, Richarlison, Vinicius , Bellingham, Julián Álvarez, Guido Rodríguez and Bono, the Moroccan goalkeeper who was very good at Sevilla last year”.
The 63-year-old coach highlighted the “transition” that occurs between forwards.
“Ibra, Ronaldo, Suárez, Cavani, Messi and Benzema, who are 35 years old, are finishing off, Lewandowski who will do them next year. The new one is represented by Mbappé, Richarlison, Haaland, Julián Álvarez and Darwin Núñez. I don’t know Gonçalo Ramos,” he admitted.
However, the coach, who guided Ronaldo in the ‘merengues’, praised the captain of the Portuguese team.
“He probably feels like he’s 20 because he’s fine, he has the answers he’s looking for in his body. He’s always taken great care of himself. However, the competition has grown in Portugal, a team that starts with [Rafael] León on the bench”, he said.
On the episode of Ronaldo’s substitution against South Korea, Ancelotti based himself on his experience with the striker.
“I trained him for two years and I didn’t have any problems. In fact, he was the one who solved my problems. Can someone who scores at least one goal per game be considered a problem? Cristiano trains very well, he pays attention to detail, all of that was easy to handle. He is an exceptional player. He will have played 100 games with me and scored more than 100. Anyone who scores more than 50 goals per season can only be good for the team, ”he concluded.
