SB20 world champion Portuguese sailors

The boat with the Portuguese José Paulo Ramada at the helm, and Gonçalo Lopes, Artem Basalkin and Carlota Gala in the crew, was proclaimed this Friday world champion in the SB20 class, in the competition that takes place from Monday, in Ireland.

Off the coast of Dun Laoghaire, ‘AP Hotels & Resort’ was always in the fight for the top positions, having finished in the ‘top 3’ in seven of the 12 races held, concluding the championship with 33 points.

In second place, the English ‘Xcellente’ finished with 44 points, followed by the Singapore team, which closed with 49 points.

The other Portuguese team, Vasco Serpa’s ‘Solyd Sailing Team/SailCascais’, with Diogo Machado Pinto and Nathan Van Steenberge, finished fifth with 64 points.

The Portuguese Rita Leal Faria, integrated in an Irish team, was placed in 37th place, with 324 points.

It is the second time that a Portuguese crew has been proclaimed world champion in this category after a boat with Hugo Rocha in the lead won the regatta in 2016, held in Cascais.
