FIFA’s disciplinary committee has today opened proceedings against the Argentine Football Association (AFA) and the Dutch Football Association (KNVB) for “possible fouls” during a match between the two countries’ teams in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
FIFA believes that during the game that the South Americans won on penalties (4-3, after the 2-2 draw in extra time), Article 12 of the disciplinary law, which refers to “misconduct by players and coaches”.
The body that governs world football also mentions that the AFA can go against Article 16, which deals with the order and safety of matches.
During the game played at Lusail Stadium, there were several ‘rogue’ between players of the two teams and protests against the referee, Spaniard Antonio Mateu Lahoz.
Argentina secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup in a ‘dramatic’ meeting on Friday, a leg in which they will face Croatia, which Brazil eliminated.
