The five members of the No Name Boys cheerleading team accused of the attempted murder of a Sporting fan were acquitted this Thursday by the Sintra Court.

The case dates back to May 2020, in Estoril, when a group of fans linked to Benfica attacked the Sporting fan João Paulo Araújo, before the Sintra Court, in a sentence released today, which acquitted the five defendants for misconduct. of tests.

This Thursday, the Sintra Court sentenced 11 of the 31 elements linked to the No Name Boys cheerleading team, who were also tried for the attack on the Benfica team bus, to suspended sentences.

These elements were sentenced for the crimes of consummated simple damage, attack on the security of road transport, possession of a prohibited weapon, simple threat, simple theft and attack against qualified physical integrity.

Convicts are also prohibited from attending sports facilities during their probationary sentence, and none of the sentences applied exceed five years.

The Public Ministry had requested the conviction of three defendants for attempted homicide of the Sporting fan and the acquittal of the other two.

Other cheerleaders accused of violating the safety of road transport are also implicated in the process, due to the alleged stoning of the club’s own bus, in which two athletes were injured.

In total, 31 members of the unauthorized Benfica No Name Boys cheerleading squad were put on trial for various attacks carried out between 2018 and 2020, which included stoning the club bus, assaulting three Sporting fans and threatening the building where the coach lived. Bruno Lage.
