This Friday, FC Porto seeks to qualify for the quarterfinals of the Football League Cup, with just a win at home against Vizela, in the third and final round of Group A.
In search of the last internal competition that it lacks in its history, FC Porto will qualify if it beats Vizela and a draw could come if Mafra does not win at home the already eliminated Desportivo de Chaves by three goals -if the ‘ Dragons’ If tied 0-0, a two-goal win is enough, and a 1-1 tie could force a playoff based on average age.
Vizela and Mafra are completely equal in the standings and to qualify they have to win and hope that the other club doesn’t win.
If they win both sets, the first tiebreaker will be goal difference (both currently have three scored and three conceded), followed by total goals scored, with average age determining.
The last two matches in Group A are scheduled for 8:30 p.m., with the winner of the ‘poule’ against Gil Vicente, who triumphed in Group E.
Two hours earlier, the vacancy in Group G was discussed, with Leixões and Feirense, from the II Liga, and Arouca from the first division, still with chances of qualifying.
With seven points, two more than the pursuer, Leixões visits Feirense, while Arouca plays in the field of Santa Clara, already eliminated, with just one point, one less than Oliveirense, who has already played all four games of the ‘ poule’.
To go to the quarterfinals, Matosinhenses only needs to beat Feirense, and a draw could come if Arouca does not triumph in the Azores.
Arouca must beat Santa Clara, the goal difference criteria being decisive, if Feirense beat Leixões.
At the moment, Arouca has a goal difference of three positives, while Feirense only has one.
The winner of Group G will face one of the leaders of professional competitions in the quarterfinals, Moreirense, first in the II Liga, or Benfica, who is at the top of the I Liga.
Both with six points ahead of Group C, but with an advantage on goal difference for Moreirense, the ‘eagles’ visit the Minho club on Saturday.
