Messi: “I want to continue playing a few more games as world champion”

Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentine team that this Sunday was proclaimed world champion for the third time, said that he really wanted this title and that “it finally arrived”, and stressed that he will not retire from the team.

“We suffered a lot, but we made it. She’s crazy that it happened like this, she wanted it so bad (the world title). I knew that God was going to give it to me, I had a presentiment that it was going to be like that. It finally arrived and now I’m going to enjoy it,” said the Argentine international, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi became the first player to win a second trophy for the best player in the World Cup, being chosen as the ‘Ballon d’Or’ in the 2022 edition, repeating that of 2014, and he is the record holder for matches in World Cups, adding 26th, against France, in the final in Lusail, Qatar.

The number 10 shirt also guaranteed that he does not plan to retire from the national team after winning the coveted world title.

“I love football, I love what I do, I love being in the national team, with this group. And obviously I want to continue living a few more matches as world champion, ”he said.

Messi scored two goals in the final, one of them a penalty, and rose to fourth place in the ‘ranking’ of the best scorers in the World Cup, surpassing the Brazilian Pelé. In what would have been his farewell to the competition, Messi already has 13 goals in World Cups.

“I can’t wait to get to Argentina to see how crazy it will be,” said the ‘star’.

Argentina won the World Cup for the third time today, repeating 1978 and 1986, by beating France 4-2 on penalties, after 3-3 in 120 minutes.
