RTP and Sport TV have reached an agreement to continue broadcasting one match per day of the I Liga de Fútbol for the next two years on RTP’s international channels, Sport TV announced.
By virtue of this agreement, the match between FC Porto and Chaves will be broadcast today, which is scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m.
Today, Benfica will also play Famalicão, at 3:30 p.m., and Sporting will play Portimonense at 6:00 p.m.
The 2022/23 Football League kicked off on August 5 without any matches being broadcast on RTP’s international channels, as in previous years.
Earlier last month, an official RTP source told Lusa that negotiations were underway and today Sport TV announced that an agreement had been reached.
Thus, it was agreed that, as in previous years, one match of each of the 34 matches of the First Football League will be broadcast on international public television channels.
“This agreement is important, because it allows us to satisfy our emigrant communities around the world and all those who follow the broadcast of the Portuguese teams’ matches from Africa, while meeting the objectives of sustainability of the economic situation and of RTP”, said the president. of RTP, Nicolau Santos, in a statement sent today to the newsrooms.
The president added that he wants “this association to continue for many years with benefits for both parties.”
The executive president of Sport Tv, Nuno Ferreira Pires, stressed that the station “did everything possible so that the requests of the emigrants did not go unanswered, guaranteeing a concrete and realistic solution to the financial challenges presented by RTP that it could meet. with the aim of bringing the best of national football to all Portuguese emigrants around the world”.
“Above all, we can never let emigrants not have access to one of the most important content for them, national football,” added Nuno Pires, in a statement.
