The president of the French Football Federation sent a letter to his Argentine counterpart for the “unsportsmanlike behavior” of the ‘albiceleste’ players after the victory in the 2022 World Cup final over the Gauls, in Qatar.
“I wrote a letter to the president of the Argentine federation for the unsportsmanlike behavior of the players. They were abnormal excesses in the context of a sports competition. It was difficult behavior to understand and accept. They went too far. Above all with Mbappé”, said Noël Le Graet, in declarations to the newspaper Ouest-France.
After triumphing in the final last Sunday (3-3 after extra time, 4-2 on penalties), players such as goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez celebrated winning the World Cup, both on the pitch and in the changing rooms, with gestures and insults towards the French, being Mbappé the preferred ‘target’.
“Even though he was attacked in this way, Mbappé’s attitude was exemplary,” said the French leader.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, the Netherlands also complained about the attitude of the Argentine players, with unsportsmanlike and anti-fair play behavior at the time of the qualifying celebrations.
