Manchester United renew Diogo Dalot’s contract until 2024

Manchester United activated the option to extend the contract of the Portuguese international Diogo Dalot for another 12 months, until June 2024, the fifth-ranked coach of the English Football League announced this Saturday.

Speaking to United’s television channel and reproduced on the club’s official website, Dutch manager Erik ten Hag confirmed the extension of the 23-year-old right-back’s link, which ended in June 2023 but has now been extended, under a already existing clause, preventing him from signing for another shield at zero cost at the end of this season.

The English club applied the same method in three other cases, announced today: Brazilian international midfielder Fred, England left-back Luke Shaw and striker Marcus Rashford.

“We are happy because the team has been moving in the right direction and these players have made an important contribution to that,” Ten Hag said.

According to the Dutchman, the objective with the four athletes is to “continue developing and supporting the process” of growth, similar to that of the team itself, extolling the role that they all played in the respective teams in the last World Cup, in Qatar.

Diogo Dalot, who played three games in the 2022 World Cup with the Portuguese team, played 20 games this year (one goal) with the ‘red devils’, who he joined in 2018/19 from FC Porto, having also gone on loan to AC Milan.

Manchester United, which also has the Portuguese Bruno Fernandes in its ranks, returns to the English championship, in which it is fifth, next Tuesday, on the traditional ‘Boxing Day’, with a reception to Nottingham Forest, 18th and third from last.
