Liverpool brings over the Dutch striker Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven

PSV Eindhoven announced on Monday the transfer to Liverpool of Dutch footballer Cody Gakpo, one of the highlights of the last 2022 World Cup, who will help make up for the injuries suffered by Colombian Luis Díaz and Portuguese Diogo Jota.

“The 23-year-old striker will leave for England at any time, where he will complete the necessary formalities before finalizing the transfer.”reports PSV on Monday on its official website.

While neither club has yet disclosed the amounts involved in the deal, the Eindhoven club’s managing director Marcel Brands admitted it was a record transfer from the club, with the English press announcing an amount between the 40 and 40 estimated. 50 million euros (between 35.4 and 44.3 million pounds).

The 23-year-old striker was one of the key players in the first phase of the 2022 Qatar World Cup, scoring in the first three Group A matches to make a significant contribution to the Netherlands’ journey to the quarter-finals.

Gakpo scored on his debut against Senegal, in the 2-0 win, he scored again the ‘taste of the foot’ against Ecuador, in the 1-1 draw, on the second day, ‘signing’ the first goal against the host team, Qatar, in the final round of Group A, in the 2-0 victory.
