Rúben Amorim assured this Wednesday that Pedro Porro will only leave Sporting in January if a club appears that exceeds the termination clause.
“We know that there are players in our team, because of what they have done, that there are other clubs that want them. We had this problem in summer. What they told me is that you can leave only because of the clause and, if so, we can’t do anything”, explained the Sporting coach, at the press conference prior to the clash with Paços de Ferreira, when asked about the Tottenham’s alleged interest in the Spanish defender.
Pedro Porro’s termination clause is 45 million euros and Amorim knows that there are those who can pay: “He is doing very well, he is living, in my opinion, one of the best moments of his career and he is very focused on Sporting. We are prepared for anything and we know that there are clubs that can pay the clause, but until that happens I think Pedro is safe.”
Still in the transfer market, L’Équipe reported this Wednesday that Pablo Sarabia will leave PSG and when asked about a possible return to Sporting, Rúben Amorim responded with Rodrigo Ribeiro and the economic limitations.
“He was largely responsible for the season we did last year, even without the national title, but that doesn’t change anything, because we continue with our salary cap, our limitations and we also have Rodrigo. [Ribeiro] who just signed [um novo contrato]. We have to manage well, know well what we are going to do, not only now, but also in the future. We have to make room for the children. Deep down I think there is a lot of talent in the academy in certain positions and, for my part, we are going to have to take advantage of the chances”, clarifies the coach.
Sporting took advantage of the break for the 2022 World Cup to build a series of victories and good performances in the League Cup and now they are having a good time. By contrast, Paços de Ferreira, Thursday’s rival, is in the third coach of the season, as Marco Paiva temporarily takes the place left by José Mota.
“We feel good, we have won six games in a row. We are going to return to the championship, which is very important and our priority. So what we want to do is keep playing well, because that way we can be close to winning, not concede goals and score as many goals as possible. [Isto] against a team that we know is not going through a good moment, but that brings us many uncertainties. We have no idea which eleven will play, how they will play, ”says the Sporting coach, revealing that he watched Marco Paiva’s work at the Rio Ave U-23 team to prepare for the match.
This Thursday, Sporting will host Paços de Ferreira at 9:15 p.m., for matchday 14 of the I Liga.
