Cristiano Ronaldo asked those responsible for Al Nassr to try with FC Porto to hire Pepe, his teammate for the Dragons and who played for several years with CR7 at Real Madrid. The news was reported by Marca newspaper, which reports that the 39-year-old defender thus became one of the targets of the Saudi club.
Pepe, remember, will end his contract with FC Porto at the end of this season, at a time when he will already be 40 years old (his birthday is in February). But recently Pinto da Costa, leader of the dragons, hinted that he could renew his contract soon: “I think he’s playing another five or six years. He’s a monster, a competitive animal.”
Al Nassr’s intention, as we know, after signing Cristiano Ronaldo as a starting point, is to build a strong team, with big names in world football, even if they are at the end of their careers. It is in this sense that Pepe’s name now appears, proposed by CR7, along with two others who had previously been sent out: Sergio Ramos, from PSG, and Luka Modric, from Real Madrid. Strangely enough, they all have in common that they played with Ronaldo in the emblem of the Spanish capital.
Marca recalls that Pepe and Cristiano built a friendship that went far beyond football. When they came together at Real Madrid, the centre-back served as host when Ronaldo arrived at the Meringue emblem, even supporting him when the striker had issues with coach Jose Mourinho.
They then belonged to the hard core of the selection in recent years. In the last World Cup, as a gesture of respect and friendship, Pepe even gave the captain’s armband to Ronaldo when he entered the field in the second half, in the matches against Switzerland, still in the group stage, and later with Morocco, in the quarter finals.
Pepe and Ronaldo were together at Real Madrid between 2009 and 2017. Now, so many years later, they can be teammates on the same team again.
