Benfica SAD and the members of the Board of Directors for the 2016/2020 period who are still in charge were indicted on January 3, the I Liga football club reported this Saturday.
“Sport Lisboa e Benfica – Futebol SAD confirms that it was constituted as a defendant on January 3, as well as, inherently and among others, the members of the Board of Directors in the period 2016 to 2020 and that they are currently in office”, the club refers to in a statement, without specifying the process in question.
The confirmation comes after the news broadcast by Diário de Notícias, which highlights that “at stake, supposedly, will be a process in which crimes derived from pirated emails to Benfica are investigated and where other processes were added, such as Vouchers and Mala Ciao “. .
According to the DN, the defendants are Rui Costa, current president of the club, Domingos Soares Oliveira, Luís Filipe Vieira, José Eduardo Moniz and Nuno Gaioso Ribeiro, all of them administrators or former administrators of the Benfica company.
The newspaper adds that the objective must be to avoid possible prescriptions, since many of these investigations have been carried out for several years, revealing that “no one has been the subject of any questioning.”
The club’s clarification adds that Benfica SAD will not make “more comments on this matter”, since the process is secret from justice.
“Benfica SAD expresses its total availability and openness to collaborate with the competent authorities, as has always been the case up to now”, concludes the statement.
