Footballer returns to Buffalo a week after cardiac arrest

Damar Hamlin was discharged from the Cincinnati hospital on Monday, a week after suffering cardiac arrest in a North American Football League (NFL) game, returning to Buffalo to continue his recovery.

The Buffalo Bills safety, who suffered cardiac arrest on the field, has been released from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and traveled to Buffalo, where he will remain hospitalized to continue his recovery.

Accompanying doctors said Hamlin already walks on his own, and is also eating normally and undergoing physical therapy.

On January 2, Damar Hamlin was hospitalized in “critical condition” after collapsing on the field in an NFL game against the Bengals.

During the first quarter of the game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Damar Hamlin, 24, collided with an opponent, got up, but ended up going down immediately after on the field.

“Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest following a collision during the game between the Buffalo Bills and the Cincinnati Bengals. His heart rhythm was restored while he was on the field and he was transported to the University of Cincinnati Hospital for further testing and treatment. He is sedated and in critical condition,” the team said in a statement.

Players from both teams knelt next to Hamlin as he was assisted on the field, and the game was first suspended and then postponed.

After an incredible recovery, Hamlin was able to breathe without help again on Friday, and when he was able to communicate again, he asked if the team had won the game.
