The Portuguese team starts this Thursday to play the World Cup in group D, along with Iceland, South Korea and Hungary.
The Portuguese debut is scheduled for this Thursday against Iceland, in Kristianstad, Sweden. A game in which the coach Paulo Jorge Pereira will be on the bench, due to a sanction that prevents him from going to the bench in the first two games, Iceland, on Thursday, and South Korea, on Saturday. Paulo Pereira considers that the team is prepared for this setback, because “communication with the athletes, Paulo Fidalgo and the rest of the coaching staff was organized” so that everything runs smoothly.
“I will be able to be in the planning of the game, before it starts, and we will do everything as normal”, says the national selector.
The handball coach assured at the launch of the match with Iceland that the group “finalized all the details to start this competition off right”.
“There is always something missing, but little by little we are evaluating the solutions to the problems that Iceland will create for us,” said Paulo Jorge Pereira. The Portuguese delegation has already admitted that the goal of this World Cup in Sweden and Poland is to improve on the tenth place achieved by the team in the 2021 edition in Egypt.
The President of the Government, António Costa, has already left a message of support and confidence for the handball team: “At the start of the Handball World Cup, and on the eve of the handball team’s debut against Iceland, I am sending a message of trust and support. The Portuguese team begins to play with Iceland at 7:30 p.m. in Kristianstad, Sweden. Portugal is included in Group D of the preliminary phase of the World Cup, which will be held until January 29 in Sweden and Poland.
