Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, after more than 70 years of the longest reign in British history.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the royal family,” added Cristiano Ronaldo.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor was born on April 21, 1926 in London and became Queen of England in 1952, aged 25, after the death of her father, George VI, who took over when her brother abdicated.
After the death of the monarch, her eldest son, aged 73, takes on the role of king as Charles III.
Cristiano Ronaldo, 37, returned to Manchester United last season, the club he played for between 2003 and 2009.
