The Jamaican police opened an investigation on Thursday into the alleged disappearance of millions of dollars from the accounts of former athlete Usain Bolt at the Jamaican investment company Stocks and Securities Limited (SSL), revealed the representative of the multi-time Olympic champion.
Nugent Walker said Bolt learned of the discrepancies in his accounts on Wednesday, EFE reported.
“All pertinent measures have been taken to get to the bottom of the matter,” he guaranteed, during a press conference where he announced that “the Division of Financial Investigations and the Financial Services Commission are among the entities that have been informed.”
Likewise, the representative of what is considered the fastest man in the world said that he could not reveal the amounts involved or the period of time covered by the investigation.
“He has been with this entity for more than ten years, his entire portfolio is being reviewed,” Walker explained.
Police are investigating reports that a former SSL employee was involved in massive fraud at the investment firm, including the disappearance of funds from Bolt’s accounts.
Lawyer Tamika Harris, who is representing a former SSL employee, revealed that her client has been in talks with SSL for two weeks.
Bolt, who won eight gold medals at the 2008 Beijing, 2012 London and Rio 2016 Olympic Games, in addition to having won ‘gold’ at the 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015 World Championships, is a world record holder in the 100 and 200 meters
After leaving the courts in 2017, Bolt assumed the intention of starting a career in football, but that never came to fruition, despite the fact that in 2018 he was trained in the German side of Borussia Dortmund and played experience in the Central Coast Australian Mariners.
