The North American Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) has suspended four coaches for life who are accused of sexually assaulting several female players, following a years-long investigation into violence and abuse.
The harshest sentences were handed down to coaches Paul Riley, Christy Holly, Rory James and Richie Bruke, who are banned from working in the NWSL for life after being found guilty of sexual harassment, sexist and racist comments.
Former Chicago Red Stars assistant coach Craig Harrington and Gotham FC manager Alise Lahua have been suspended from all league roles for two years.
An additional six people surveyed will be required to “admit their mistakes, presuming they engaged in inappropriate behavior, and demonstrate a clear willingness to correct their behavior,” in order to work in the NWSL.
The Chicago Red Stars and Portland Thorns must pay fines of $ 1.5 million (about $ 1.37 million) for their negligent behavior and attempt to conceal the facts.
