Spanish drivers Carlos Sainz (Audi), in cars, and Joan Barreda (Honda), on motorcycles, abandoned the 45th edition of the all-terrain Dakar rally this Tuesday after two accidents during the ninth test phase.

Spanish motorcyclist Joan Barreda was also taken to hospital complaining of back pain after a fall at kilometer 16 of Tuesday’s special.
Barreda, who had suffered a broken toe since stage two, was eighth in the motorcycle standings, 07.21 minutes behind the leader, North American Skyler Howes (Husqvarna).
