PSP says that the derby between Benfica and Sporting was “peaceful”

The match between Benfica and Sporting, corresponding to the 16th round of the 1st Football League, was marked by the absence of incidents in the vicinity of the Estádio da Luz, according to a source from the Public Security Police (PSP).

Speaking to Lusa, PSP commissioner Artur Serafim said that “everything went well from the beginning”, adding that no arrests were made or any prohibited material was seized.

“It was a quiet derby because the police were very well assembled. We occupy the area with a lot of visibility, a strong bet on strategic points, so it is normal that it has been a successful operation, ”he summarized.

On the alleged lack of respect at the end of the match in the access tunnel to the changing rooms, Artur Serafim refused to make any comment.

“I’m not talking about that, this is already a matter for the League delegate,” concluded the PSP commissioner.

The derby between Benfica and Sporting ended with a 2-2 draw. Bah, an own goal, and Pedro Gonçalves scored for the ‘lions’, while the goals for the ‘eagles’ came from the feet of Gonçalo Ramos.

Benfica leads the championship with 41 points, four more than Sporting de Braga and five more than champions FC Porto, while Sporting remains in fourth place, with 29, within reach of Casa Pia, fifth with 27, who on Monday visit Estoril Praia.
