The referees will be able to explain to the public the decisions made by the video referee (VAR), the International Board (IFAB) decided this Wednesday, which will test the measure already in the Club World Cup, in February in Morocco.
“We think this is important in terms of transparency, particularly for the fans in the stadium, who at the moment do not receive any information about the decisions,” explained FA chief executive Mark Bullingham.
This unprecedented experience will be replicated in the Women’s World Championship, to be organized by Australia and New Zealand, between July 20 and August 20, added the leader, after the International Board meeting at Wembley Stadium in London.
If the communications between the referee and the video referee are confidential, their conclusions will be made public.
At the same meeting, the body that regulates soccer rules chose not to allow, even experimentally in the next season, temporary replacements when there are athletes receiving medical attention for a head injury.
Called for by the global players union FIFPro and the World Leagues Forum, which represents 40 professional leagues, the measure should be tested in the English League, the French League and the American League.
Defenders of temporary substitutions, as in rugby, argue that this measure would give the medical team more time to have a better informed opinion on the decision to substitute a footballer.
“There are different points of view and they all have their merits. I’m probably not the best person to make the case for both sides. [Bullingham defende as substituições provisórias]but the IFAB does not want to support this experiment at this time,” the official added.
