Manchester City beat Tottenham with Mahrez comeback and luxury performance

Manchester City strengthened its second place in the English league on Thursday with a spectacular 4-2 victory over Tottenham and Algerian Riyad Mahrez as man of the match.

With two goals and one assist, the Maghreb striker led City’s response against the Londoners, who came 2-0 down at half time, in this postponed game of the seventh round of the Championship.

Portugal’s Manchester City were not part of Pep Guardiola’s starting eleven and Bernardo Silva was called up for the final ten minutes, as the home side had already won 3-2, while Ruben Dias returned to the competition after being injured in the 2022 fixture World Cup, coming in at 90.

Coming from a derby defeat with United, the blues responded well, with the artistic note of turning a 2-0 deficit into a clear victory, placing them five points behind Arsenal, with three more than the team of Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot.

Tottenham’s goals came just before half-time, one from Dejan Kulusevski and one from Emerson Royal, after Harry Kane’s insistence.

City responded very well in the second half, dominating with authority after the restart and the home goals came naturally.

The Mahrez Festival kicked off in the 52nd minute, with the center in play for the home’s first goal. Gundogan headed in and then Argentina’s Julián Álvarez fired to score.

After two minutes it was the Norwegian Haaland who – after three games without a goal – returned to the goals and completed Mahrez’s pass.

The Algerian also provided a nice victory for the home team in the 64th and 90th minutes, which has certainly not yet thrown in the towel in the pursuit of Arsenal.
