The 23-year-old who accused footballer Dani Alves of sexual assault has waived her right to compensation from the player before the judge investigating the case, El País suggests.
Even if you are entitled by law (in case of conviction) to financial compensation for the injuries and moral damage suffered, the woman refused compensation, claiming that her goal is for justice to be done and the player arrested for what happened.
Dani Alves, 39, has been in custody since Friday after voluntarily reporting to a Catalan police station to respond to the assault.
The crime allegedly took place in the early hours of December 30, in the bathrooms of the VIP area of Barcelona’s Sutton nightclub, and the complaint was filed on January 2.
According to El País, the young woman’s testimony—which was deemed “convincing” and “persisting” by the custody authority—reveals that she entered the disco shortly before 2 a.m., accompanied by a friend and her cousin. Once at the disco, they were invited to the VIP area, where a waiter “insistently” asked them to go to Dani Alves’ table. The player will then have sent the young woman to the bathroom, where he sexually assaulted her.
The victim says she explained what happened to the nightclub doorman, who took her to another location where she could speak to a Sutton manager. The young woman was later treated in a hospital clinic, the medical report of which is one of the evidence of the case.
On the other hand, Daniel Alves’ testimony is considered contradictory, having already presented three different versions of the same event. Moreover, his statement in court does not match the evidence gathered during the investigation.
The accusation of sexual assault led to the Brazil international being fired from the Mexican Pumas after his arrest.
